The Girls Get New Homes

Last weekend we delivered nucs. One went  to Ethan, one to John and the Marlboro Boy Scouts, and the third went to Bob and Darcy.

I have to say, Bob and Darcy’s hive was adorable, and the bees thought it quite posh…

Ron Papa brought the nucs up from Georgia, and Bee Happy Honey purchased them with the hives for the new beekeepers.

They all did great unloading the girls, and I’m hoping for the best.

Nice work!

Marcel brought me a swarm, so my yard is happy again…bless him.

TED.com Video on Pollinators

Luckily I work with some pretty smart people.

Today I was directed to this beautiful video, which was created by Louie Schwartzberg for TED.com.

Eh. Not the Happiest Time.

Our hive died.

There was a long period of cold rain, and the girls got soaked. That, combined with the cold and some ventilation problems…well, you know the rest.

What’s even more disheartening is the lack of honeybees I see in my yard.

Two.

Today I saw two.

We’ll be starting over. Hopefully a swarm will come by, or someone will split a hive. Right now Ron Papa is bringing 3 nucs for our new beekeepers, and we’ll take it from there.

It’s very quiet in the yard.
